Students on Ice Foundation Opens Global Youth Applications for 2027 Expedition Season

GATINEAU, QC, Nov. 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Following a successful 2026 expedition season, the Students on Ice Foundation (SOI) has officially opened youth applications for its upcoming 2027 expedition season. SOI invites young people aged 14 to 35 from across Canada, the Arctic, and around the world to apply for transformative, ship-based educational journeys.

While specific program details for next summer are currently being finalized, SOI has streamlined the application process so that applicants need only submit one application to be evaluated for all 2027 expeditions. Selected participants will be matched to the expedition program that best aligns with their background, leadership potential, and personal interests.

Our program is rooted in both Traditional Knowledge, and scientific inquiry, and is designed to inspire the next generation to become leaders and stewards of a healthy and sustainable future,” says Geoff Green, Founder and President of the Students on Ice Foundation. “An expedition is more than just a trip - it’s a transformative educational journey. Youth gain a deeper understanding of critical global issues and return home with skills, confidence, and networks to create positive impact.”

Experience, Learn, and Connect

SOI expeditions bring together a diverse cohort of youth, educators, scientists, Indigenous Elders, and policy experts. Participants engage in hands-on learning while exploring themes such as climate change, healthy marine ecosystems, sustainable communities, and ocean literacy.
