Governor Morrisey Delivers Address on 25th Anniversary of 9/11 at Parkersburg High School ...

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Governor Patrick Morrisey delivered an address at Parkersburg High School on Friday marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The event brought together the entire student body, members of the local community, and the family of Mary Lou Hague, a Parkersburg High School graduate who lost her life in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

"Mary Lou sat in the exact same classrooms you are sitting in today," Governor Morrisey said. "She walked these very hallways as a proud graduate of Parkersburg High School. She had big dreams, a bright future, and a deep love for her hometown. Twenty-five years later, her light and her memory still shine brightly right here in Parkersburg."

Hague was 26 years old and working as a financial analyst on the 89th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center when she was killed in the attacks. Her memory continues in Parkersburg through her family, friends, and scholarships established in her honor.

Governor Morrisey also remembered Dr. Paul Ambrose, a 32-year-old Huntington native and physician who was aboard the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 when it crashed into the Pentagon.

The Governor told students that the legacy of September 11 is found not only in the tragedy of that day, but in the courage, service, and unity Americans showed in response.

"You don't have to wait for a crisis to be a hero," Governor Morrisey said. "You can choose to be kind when someone is struggling, stand up for your friends, look out for one another, and build a community that Mary Lou Hague would have been proud of."
